DF Steel Pipe Successfully Exports 4500 Metric Tons of GOST-R Certified ASTM A106 Grade B and ASTM A192 Seamless Carbon Steel Boiler Tubes for Major Thermal Power Plant Modernization Project in the Russian Federation

DF Steel Pipe completed a major export order of 4,500 metric tons of seamless carbon steel boiler tubes to a thermal power plant modernization project in the Russian Federation. The order comprised ASTM A106 Grade B and ASTM A192 tubes in diameters ranging from OD 38mm to 89mm with wall thicknesses from 3.2mm to 12mm, manufactured to controlled chemistry and mechanical properties for high-temperature, high-pressure boiler service conditions. All tubes were GOST-R conformity certified for the Russian market, underwent 100% eddy current non-destructive testing and hydrostatic pressure testing, and were packed in ISPM 15-compliant fumigated wooden crates for multimodal transport via rail and sea through Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port on the Black Sea.

1. Boiler Tube Specifications and High-Temperature Service Requirements

Boiler tubes for thermal power plant service operate under extreme conditions: superheater and reheater sections expose tubes to steam temperatures up to 540°C at pressures exceeding 15 MPa (2,175 psi), while waterwall tubes in the furnace radiant section experience heat fluxes up to 300 kW/m² with steam-water mixtures at saturation temperature. These severe operating conditions demand boiler tubes with precise chemical composition control, fine-grain fully-killed steelmaking practice, controlled mechanical properties at both ambient and elevated temperatures, 100% non-destructive testing to detect surface and subsurface defects, and guaranteed dimensional accuracy for consistent fit-up during boiler assembly and tube replacement outages.

ASTM A106 Grade B is the standard specification for seamless carbon steel pipe for high-temperature service, with minimum tensile strength of 415 MPa (60,000 psi) and minimum yield strength of 240 MPa (35,000 psi). For this order, supplementary requirements included: restricted carbon content (0.17-0.23%) for consistent elevated-temperature strength without excessive hardenability; maximum sulfur and phosphorus of 0.025% each for improved ductility and toughness; grain size ASTM No. 5 or finer per ASTM E112 for creep resistance at elevated temperature; and 100% eddy current testing per ASTM E309 with reference standard notch depth of 5% of nominal wall thickness (N5 notch). ASTM A192 is specifically for seamless carbon steel boiler tubes for high-pressure service, with similar chemistry to A106 but tighter dimensional tolerances (OD ±0.1mm for tubes <50mm OD) suitable for boiler tube banks requiring precise tube-to-tubesheet fit-up in headers and drums.

2. GOST-R Certification and Russia Power Generation Market

GOST-R certification is mandatory for pressure equipment and steel pipes supplied to the Russian Federation and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states. The certification process involves: factory audit by a Rosakkreditatsiya-accredited certification body to verify manufacturing capability, quality management system, testing laboratory competence, and personnel qualifications; type testing of representative product samples including chemical analysis, tensile testing at ambient and elevated temperatures, flattening tests, flaring tests, and hydrostatic tests per GOST 1060 and GOST 3845 standards; and issuance of a Certificate of Conformity (GOST-R) and Declaration of Conformity with a unique registration number in the Federal Service for Accreditation (Rosakkreditatsiya) unified register. DF Steel Pipe GOST-R certified boiler tubes are listed in the EAEU unified register, enabling legal placement on the market throughout Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan.

Russia thermal power generation sector operates over 350 thermal power plants (TPPs) with combined installed capacity exceeding 240 GW, representing approximately 65% of the country total electricity generation. The Russian government Power Sector Modernization Program (DPM-2) targets modernization of 40 GW of thermal capacity by 2035, involving replacement of aging boiler units, steam turbines, and balance-of-plant equipment commissioned during the Soviet era (1960s-1980s). This modernization program generates sustained demand for replacement boiler tubes, superheater tubes, reheater tubes, economizer tubes, and associated pressure part components. DF Steel Pipe GOST-R certified boiler tubes are positioned to serve this market, complementing our position as a steel pipe supplier to Russia and CIS countries.
