Key Features

Why galvanized steel pipe is the construction industry standard

Long-Term Corrosion Protection

Zinc coating provides sacrificial cathodic protection — zinc corrodes preferentially, protecting the underlying steel for decades.

Full Coverage (HDG)

Hot-dip process coats internal and external surfaces completely, including threads, weld seams, and crevices for total protection.

Zero Maintenance

Galvanized pipes require no painting, coating, or maintenance throughout their service life, dramatically reducing lifecycle costs.

Proven Technology

Hot-dip galvanizing has been used for over 150 years. It is a well-understood, highly reliable, and predictable corrosion protection method.

Cost-Effective

Lower initial cost than stainless steel with comparable outdoor corrosion resistance. Lowest lifetime cost of any corrosion protection system.

Ready to Use

Galvanized pipes arrive on site ready for immediate installation — no surface preparation, painting, or curing required.

Applications

Where galvanized steel pipes deliver reliable performance

Water Supply Systems

Municipal water distribution, plumbing risers, fire sprinkler systems, and rural water supply networks.

Construction Scaffolding

BS 1139/EN 39 compliant scaffolding tubes for safe, durable temporary access structures in construction projects.

Structural Framing

Columns, beams, and trusses in steel-framed buildings, warehouses, and industrial sheds requiring corrosion protection.

Fencing & Gates

GI pipes for chain-link fencing posts, gates, boundary walls, security barriers, and livestock enclosures.

Greenhouse Structures

Galvanized pipes for greenhouse frames, hoops, and support structures — corrosion-resistant in high-humidity environments.

Road Safety Barriers

GI pipe used in guardrails, crash barriers, signpost structures, and traffic management infrastructure.

HVAC & Ducting

Galvanized pipes for ventilation ducts, chimney flues, exhaust systems, and air handling applications.

Fire Protection

UL-listed and FM-approved galvanized fire sprinkler pipes for commercial, industrial, and residential fire safety systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about galvanized steel pipes

What is the difference between hot-dip and pre-galvanized pipe?
Hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) dips finished steel pipes into molten zinc (~450°C), producing a thick zinc-iron alloy coating (200-600g/m²) with full coverage inside and out. Pre-galvanized pipe uses zinc-coated steel coil that is then formed and welded — the weld seam is not zinc-protected, making it more economical but less corrosion-resistant than HDG.
What standards apply to galvanized steel pipe?
Our galvanized pipes comply with ASTM A53 (pipe specification), ASTM A123 (hot-dip galvanizing), BS 1387 (steel tubes for water/gas), EN 10255, and ISO 1461 standards.
How thick is the zinc coating?
Hot-dip galvanized coating weight typically ranges from 200-600g/m² (zinc thickness 30-85μm) depending on steel thickness and specification. Pre-galvanized coating is typically Z80-Z275 (80-275g/m²).
What are the typical applications of galvanized pipe?
Galvanized pipes are widely used for water supply, fire protection sprinkler systems, scaffolding, fencing, greenhouse structures, handrails, structural columns, and HVAC ducting. They are not recommended for gas lines or high-temperature applications.
How long does galvanized pipe last?
In outdoor atmospheric exposure, galvanized pipe typically lasts 34-70+ years depending on environment (rural/urban/industrial/marine). In buried service, life expectancy is 35-50 years. In interior applications, service life can exceed 75 years.
